Settlement
Poplars Vineyard Chardonnay 2020
Marlborough
Settlement crafts a robust and dynamic chardonnay from the 28 year old vines of the Poplars Vineyard. Coaxing the best from the Mendoza Clone plantings, the wine has a naturally flinty edge that sits in contrast against moderate oak and lees aging.
Vineyard

The Poplars Vineyard showcases free draining alluvium over a complex clay profile. The certified organic vineyard requires little to no irrigation.
Winemaking

Grapes are hand-picked and pressed slowly into tanks for a night. The must was then racked into barrels where it went through wild fermentation and ageing for 12 months on lees. 15% new oak was used. The wine is then transfered to stainless steel tanks for 6 months before bottling without fining.
Vintage

The 2020 vintage was one of the best the Marlborough region has seen with a warm growing season and minimal rain fall.
Tasting Note
Rich and savory, this an intriguing chardonnay offering both ripe fruit and tight minerality with a persistent, long finish.

"Vibrant and energetic"
James Suckling - December 7, 2022
"A vibrant and energetic chardonnay with aromas of poached pears, lemons, roasted almonds, rosemary and flint. It's medium- to full-bodied with excellent energy and focus. Spicy and fragrant edge. From organically grown grapes." - J.S 10/22
