Worlds Apart
Mclaren Vale
Louis Schofield spent a decade working in fine wine retail and as a sommelier at some of the world’s best restaurants, such as Jock Zonfrillo’s acclaimed Orana in Adelaide. He was happy in that world; winemaking was never part of his plan. As he put it, “There are enough people making shitty wine without me doing it too. But it was really Taras [Ochota] that gave me the confidence to have a crack.” Indeed, it’s one thing to love wine, and another thing entirely to make it, but training under Taras was a surefire choice. Worlds Apart Wines was launched in 2017 by Louis and his fiancé, Hannah Jeffrey, with the simple goal of making thoughtful wine that tastes good. Their wines would technically be considered natural, with no additives but minimal sulfur, but they don’t get hung up on dogma.
Wines

Into the Black Syrah
Winemaker Louis Schofield made 'Into the Black' in a humble ode to his late mentor, Taras Ochota, one of Australia's most beloved and influential winemakers. It's what Mike Bennie calls "a unique wine, deep, brooding," coming from a cool climate in the hills above McLaren Vale.

Blewitt Springs Grenache
The wine comes from Blewitt springs, between McLaren Flat and Clarendon, in the middle of the rolling hills of McLaren Vale. This area is home to a diverse array of soil types, but is most famous for its ancient sand dunes where Grenache with vine age makes stunningly perfumed, pretty and intriguing wine.

Hope Forest Sauvignon Blanc
Hope Forest is an overlooked sub-region of the Kuitpo sub-region within the Adelaide Hills. It is the most southerly tip of the Hills sitting atop the Willunga Hill leading into McLaren Vale. The climate is much cooler than the area immediately north into the Hills and much drier and cooler than the Vale to the south.

Mountain Tops Pinot Noir
As its name suggests, 'Mountain Tops' is made from grapes sourced at high altitude Piccadilly Valley vineyards in the Adelaide Hills. Also as the name suggests, it's an ode to the most nourishing, comforting, nurturing of all topographic formations. Louis could only hope to make wine that brings the same joy and life to people that pink mountain tops, a most inspiring muse, always manage to do.

Louis Schofield
Since 2016, Lois Schofield has worked as assistant winemaker at Ochota Barrels, as well as at the wood-fired wine lounge that served as the Ochota Barrels cellar door, but perhaps even more critically as a Basket Range community hub. He has also worked a vintage in Arizona with Tool’s Maynard Keenan – who Taras Ochota famously collaborated with – before launching Worlds Apart Wines in 2017.
