Worlds Apart
Mountain Tops Pinot Noir 2022
Adelaide Hills
As its name suggests, ‘Mountain Tops’ is made from grapes sourced at high altitude Piccadilly Valley vineyards in the Adelaide Hills. Also as the name suggests, it’s an ode to the most nourishing, comforting, nurturing of all topographic formations… Louis could only hope to make wine that brings the same joy and life to people that pink mountain tops, a most inspiring muse, always manage to do… On the label is the radio towers of Mount Lofty, South Australia’s highest peak on the back slope of which this vineyard lies.
Vineyard
Mountain Tops’ is made from grapes sourced at high altitude Piccadilly Valley vineyards (Chapel Valley) in the Adelaide Hills. Very Sandy soil loam over 70 million year old shale rock
Winemaking
The wine is made with three clones – Clones MV6, D5V12, 114 & 115, on Southern, Eastern, and Western aspects – from three picks, eight spontaneous ferments, and varying percentages of whole bunch and time on skins, some carbonic. Overall, it sees 10-14 days of skin contact. It ages in mostly old oak for 8 months, with just 10% new. After aging, it is bottled without fining or filtering and just a dash of sulfur.
Vintage
Adelaide Hills had a very cool season and the latest harvest since 2011. Conditions during flowering impacted yields particularly in pinot noir and chardonnay.
Tasting Note
This is a delicate wine, with notes of strawberry and melon. A savory herb characteristic grow in the glass. The finish is lifted and long.
